Rehabilitation Process

How do you restore historic buildings for adaptive reuse?

No experience? No problem!

The historic buildings available for lease at Fort Hancock and the Sandy Hook Proving Ground are in a National Historic Landmark District, which requires they are rehabilitated in a culturally sensitive way. The NPS staff will help you and your professional team navigate the process to get your Notice to Proceed with construction.

When assembling your team of architects and engineers, please consider their familiarity and experience with historic preservation standards.

The documents below will help them develop plans that will be submitted to the NPS for compliance and review. After your Construction Documents are approved, you will apply for permits and inspections with Middletown Township and begin construction.
