Built in first period of Fort Hancock construction, the Mule Barn is a good example of late 19th C. military stable. Design & construction materials illustrate US Army’s effort to create cohesive appearance at fort. The building is a reminder of the importance of horsepower at the end of 19th C. |
Physical Description
2 story rectabgular bldg located on Kearney Rd. Two 1 story shed attachments on E and N facade. Gable roof w/ 3 dormers. Chimney attached to north facade of north shed. Round arches on wooden doors and DH windows. Windows have wooden sashes and stone sills. Built to accomodate 30 horse stables. |
