In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt signed legislation enabling YMCA to erect facilities on military reservations. YMCA, born of late 19th C. “progressive” movement – hoped to preserve Post’s social, intellectual, & moral welfare. Design & materials chosen to match earlier fort architecture. |
Physical Description
L-shaped bldg: 1 story wing to the N (auditorium) connected via a passageway to 2 1/2 story main bldg that has 2 story addition on its S facade. Auditorium has gable roof; main bldg has hip roof w/ dormer on W slope; passageway and addition have flat roofs. 1 story porch on W facade of main bldg. |
